Breakout Session 1 - Deploying IoT
Smart Communities: Deploying IoT Applications - From Challenge to Success

Tuesday, June 6     11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

As communities around the world have initiated programs to bring “smart” capabilities to their towns and cities, they have learned a great deal about what they and their citizens really need, what will aid their support infrastructure – including first responders, the questions cities should ask when considering developing connected infrastructure to support city IoT applications, and how the communications ecosystem can support them in their objectives.

The Jam Session discussions will include: Steps the communications ecosystem can take to better help the digitization process so that more cities can take advantage of the benefits, while diminishing the challenges. Lessons learned from companies working with cities, that they can share with their compatriots so as a whole Jam attendees can serve cities better. New business models to help cities and the companies that work with them to gain returns on investment which will enable the stepping stone of moving from a series of pilots to full on urban and cross border deployments. Where is the money and how can it be accessed to support cities and their corporate partners. The national, regional and local policies which need to be understood, modified and developed to support cities in their endeavors. TIA will also discuss its position as lead on the U.S. National Committee (USNC) Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Systems Committee on Smart Cities, and how TIA members can join the TAG.
