Smart Communities Breakfast

Sponsored By:

Wednesday, June 7, 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM

Cities and towns, both urban and rural, in growing numbers are taking steps to digitize their communities.  Some are well advanced. Others are just beginning. Some have a strong communications infrastructure in place. Others are still working to get fundamental connectivity. All want to better the living environment of their citizens by providing services, while at the same time streamlining the delivery and operations of those services. City and town councils differ in how they operate, the list of their priority objectives, and the rules, regulations and laws that guide their operations. City officials, CIOs and long-time city partners of communities at different stages of digitization will discuss what communities are trying to achieve, frustrations, needs, paths to forward growth, how to work with them, and best practices they have learned thus far.  TIA will also provide an update as the lead on the U.S. National Committee (USNC) Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Systems Committee on Smart Cities.

Wednesday, June 7, 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM

The exponential increase in cyberthreats has heightened awareness for holistic security strategies that don’t just protect legacy and new virtualized telecom infrastructure, but devices, nodes, and data storage connected to it. Senior executives representing the telecommunications, transportation, and energy industries, as well as public sector security officers, will discuss the critical need to defend today’s commercial and public infrastructure, while preparing tomorrow’s security operations centers to handle ever-evolving security threats. The panel will discuss process, protocols, and standards that are advancing a new cyber protection framework that is integral infrastructure architectures. Further, they’ll discuss how to expand security perimeters to authenticated end-point devices through software-defined network capabilities that are more capable of adapting to emerging attack vectors.
